GCSE Options - Pathways
The Pathways process begins in the spring term of Year 9 ready for GCSE options to commence in the second half of the summer term.
At GCSE all pupils study:
- English Language
- English Literature
- Mathematics
- Science (Double or Triple Award)
In addition, pupils at Alderwood are able to study three optional subjects at KS4.

There are two Options Pathways at Alderwood:
- The English Baccalaureate Pathway: French or German / History or Geography / Free Choice
- The Progress 8 Pathway: History, Geography, French, German or Computing / Free Choice / Free Choice
Triple Science is available for a small number of talented Scientists. This extra subject is taught weekly after school. If you wish your child to be considered for Triple Science you should contact Mr Parkin (Head of Science) t.parkin@alderwood.hants.sch.uk or Mr Ali (Second in Science) d.ali@alderwood.hants.sch.uk
All pupils also continue with Physical Education (PE), Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE) including Relationships and sex education (RSE), and Religious Education (RE) although these subjects are not examined and are not awarded a qualification.
