Primary Sites: 80th D-Day Anniversary - 6th June 2024

On 6th June 1944 the allies launched the biggest airborne invasion in history, codenamed Operation Neptune and commonly referred to as D-Day.
To mark this significant event, which this year marks its 80th anniversary, Alderwood primary has decided that our children will learn about its significance through assemblies and within lessons where they may complete research, codebreaking or even look at photographic sources etc.
Children may also dress-up for the day. They can come in wearing army combat clothes; dress smartly with medals like a veteran, wear Cub/Brownie uniforms or come as an evacuee. This is optional.
Being a school in a military town, we think it's important to recognise this moment in history.
